Description 28 1/8 x 32 1/8” (overall), Oil on bed ticking. Portrait of three-masted vessel under sail in the mid ground, having black hull with “S. P” visible at bow, a flag with white stars arranged in a circle on a black ground flying from the foremast, a red, white, and blue pennant from the main mast, a white flag from the mizzen mast, and an American flat with 13 stars arranged in a circle from the ensign halyards. A white colored lighthouse is in the background on the left; another ship under sail in the distance on the right. In the foreground is a greenish sea, the sky is pink and blue-gray with some white. The painting is in a period frame, painted black with a gold liner.
