Title Broderie Perse
Date c. 1840
Description This is a Broderie Perse quilt with sections of a chintz fabric applied to the background with a buttonhole stitch. A narrow tape was attached to the edges of these chintz flowers and other motifs with a couching stitch. This tape varies in color ranging from green, white, and brown. The quilt follows the English tradition of a circular design surrounded by an octagon in the center. The quilt contains fabric printed in England or India that depicts various kinds of birds and flowers. The quilt contains a Lewis and Clark fabric that depicts birds from the American West. The interior border contains a vibrant (Prussian) blue color in the fabric.
