Object Name Dress
Date 1850
Description Dark gray-blue silk taffeta. V-neckline in front. Back closure with 15 brass hooks & eyes. Dropped shoulders. Long, pagoda sleeves with slightly wide openings at cuffs. Cap at top of sleeves & cuffs trimmed with 3 bands of black velvet ribbon. Deep V-tucks at front of bodice. V-waistline in front. Skirt tightly gathered & sewn directly to bodice-no waistband. Same 3 bands of black velvet ribbon at hemline. Piped seams. Hand sewn. Bodice bone. Bottom of skirt with extra piece of purple silk taffeta, possibly later addition. Bodice & skirt lined with tan glazed cotton.
